Ukiah’s Quintessential Small Town Event

Ukiah's Quintessential Small Town Rodeo

If you’re new to Ukiah, grab your calendar and block off the weekend of May 26, 2025. Why? Because that’s Memorial Day. And in our part of the country, Memorial Day weekend is synonymous with the Potter Valley Rodeo.

This is THE quintessential small town event in the area.

Located just 20 minutes outside Ukiah, Potter Valley is one of the prettiest spots in the state. (Check it out if you haven’t already!) In the spring, it’s stunningly green and gorgeous. By far, my favorite season to visit.

As for the rodeo itself, it’s sanctioned by the CCPRA, otherwise known as the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association (say that five times fast!). It’s produced by one of Northern California’s top stock contractors, West Coast Rodeo Company. And most importantly, it’s a weekend of nonstop entertainment for the whole family.

The event offers axe throwing, mutton busting, and wood-cutting competitions, as well as delicious food and dancing. And of course, there are plenty of opportunities to watch professional cowboys and cowgirls show off their rodeo skills, including barrel racing and bullfighting.

I love every event, but my favorite thing about Potter Valley Rodeo is the sense of community that envelops you the minute you arrive. While there’s no shortage of things to do and see, the experience of simply being present with hundreds of people who enjoy this event as much as I do is incredible.

Am I a cowgirl, you ask? Actually, no. I’m just a realtor in the Ukiah area. But when the rodeo comes to town, I go all out. I throw axes and eat BBQ and cheer and dance like the whole event depends on me and my boundless enthusiasm.

Seriously, this year’s rodeo already has my family excited for next year’s. We’ve grown to expect a down-home, well-organized, FUN weekend—and you can, too.

So, grab your cowboy hat, put on your boots, and join us for the Potter Valley Rodeo in 2025. And in the meantime, practice your country dancing! Can’t wait to see you there.
